Speech and Language Services

Speech, Language, Communication, Cognition, and Swallowing Services

Our team of Speech-Language Pathologists provide speech and language evaluations and treatment for patients across the lifespan. A doctor may provide a referral to our outpatient team for assessment of cognition, language, swallowing, or speech resulting from a variety of medical conditions including traumatic brain injury (TBI), stroke, neurologic conditions, or recent surgery.

On your first visit, a speech-language pathologist will provide an assessment and recommendations regarding further treatment if warranted. Treatment plans are personalized for each patient’s individual needs.

Speech and language services may target:

  • Aphasia (acquired disorder of language)- language comprehension and expression strategies and goals
  • Dysphagia (disorder of swallowing) - diet recommendations, swallow strategies, and exercises
  • Dysarthria/Apraxia (motor speech disorders)- muscle movement, planning, and coordination to support speech sound production
  • Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) - working with low-technology and high-technology to find alternatives to verbal speech
  • Cognitive strategies- targeting attention, memory, and problem-solving
